On 6 November 2015, the Energy Charter Secretariat Knowledge Centre concluded the Seventh session of its Executive Training Programmes series. At a closing ceremony, a group of 30 young professionals from all around the world received a Certificate of Excellence for having successfully completed the three-day long intensive training in energy investment mediation and conciliation held at the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels.

During the training, participants  benefitted from in-depth exposure to the knowledge and experience accumulated by the Energy Charter, as well as to the extensive professional experience of several leading international negotiators and mediators.

This edition of the Energy Charter Training Programme included an informative pre-training session on the Energy Charter Treaty, during which Energy Charter officials discussed the legal peculiarities of the Energy Charter Treaty among other relevant topics.

As for the Training Programme instruction sessions, participants had the unique chance to learn from professional negotiators and mediators, including from the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and the International Mediation Centre (IMI). The Simulation scenario, which was the pinnacle of the Training Programme, engaged participants in real-life negotiations, supported by professional mediators.

As a result, participants benefitted from a complete picture on how mediation can assist them in investment dispute resolutions. The programme offered them a rich, unique and in-depth training, ranging from understanding the different legal instruments available, to acquiring fundamental negotiation skills, to reaching a settlement agreement even through deadlock.
