Technical Workshop On Electricity Transit

Organised by the Energy Charter Secretariat

15 October 2014, Energy Charter Secretariat, Brussels

The Energy Charter Secretariat organised a Technical Workshop on Electricity Transit on 15 October 2014 as a follow-up on its study "Price of Electricity Transit in Transition Countries". The aim of the workshop was to assist the countries of Central Asia in finalising the methodology for electricity transit, as well as to discuss broader issues of regional cooperation in the power sector. The workshop was attended by the energy officials and representatives of Transmission System Operators (TSOs) from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Representatives of ENTSO-E (The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity) and the Belgian TSO Elia Group presented the European experience, knowledge and expertise on hosting power flows and their compensation within the framework of the Inter-TSO Compensation Agreement. Workshop participants discussed the various principles of the ITC mechanism and their applicability to the operation of Central Asia's integrated power system, as well as the practical implementation arrangements for such a mechanism.
