Energy Charter Award 2019 - Minister Hala- Zawati (Jordan)

H.E. Eng. Hala Adel Zawati, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan received the 2019 Energy Charter Award. The award was presented during the 30th Meeting of the Energy Charter Conference on 11 December 2019. 

Minister Zawati attached high importance to the Energy Charter and to the accession process of Jordan to the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT). The efforts of the Minister resulted in Jordan ratifying the ECT in August 2018 and joining the Energy Charter Conference as a Contracting Party. The award was received by Mr Ziad Sabra on behalf of the Minister. 

Minister Zawati has thirty years of diversified experience at the regional level in several sectors including Public policy, energy, water, environment, information and communications technology and tourism. She began her career as Communications Engineer then served as an independent consultant with several international organizations including USAID, JICA, UNDP, EU and GIZ. 

Minister Zawati was formerly the CEO of the Jordan Strategy Forum (JSF); a non-for-profit organization, which represents a group of Jordanian private sector companies that are proactively engaged in promoting Jordan’s economic growth. She is also an advocate and expert in the Jordanian renewable energy sector. Mrs. Zawati holds a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from Jordan University (1987), and a MBA from Instituto de Empressa in Spain (2007).
