The International Energy Charter strengthens ties with Benin

On 21 February 2020, Energy Charter Secretary General Dr Urban Rusnák visited the Embassy of the Republic of Benin in Brussels, upon the invitation from the Ambassador. Ambassador Zacharie Richard Akplogan welcomed the Secretary General to discuss the current collaboration between the Energy Charter Secretariat and the Government of Benin.

It was agreed that cooperation should be reinforced to facilitate the more active role of Benin in the Energy Charter Process. It was in this spirit of closer collaboration that the government confirmed its participation in the 2020 edition of the Energy Investment Risk Assessment (EIRA) report and a secondment of a national official to deliver a report on energy efficiency in Benin under the AGoSE project. Dr Rusnák and the Ambassador also discussed the possibility of building a tri-partite partnership among the Secretariat, the government of Benin and ECOWAS, through the ECOWAS Permanent Representation in Brussels.
