The International Energy Charter and the African Union Group

Ms Victoria Nalule of Uganda, Mr Uwakwe Ukuta Azikiwe of Nigeria, and Mr Khroumbaly Lehbib of Mauritania accompanied Secretary General Dr. Urban Rusnák to the meeting of the African Union Group of Ambassadors on 10 April 2015 in Brussels.

In their joint presentation, they updated the African delegates about the Energy Charter modernisation and expansion process and refer to concrete national and regional cases.

Under the new International Energy Charter to be adopted on 20-21 May 2015 in The Hague, The Netherlands, the signatories underline the importance of access to sustainable modern, affordable, and cleaner energy, which may contribute to energy poverty alleviation. In this way, the International Energy Charter, a declaration of political intention aiming at strengthening international cooperation, can contribute to achieve the energy objectives of developing countries.
