In the evening of the first day of the Conference a signing ceremony took place during which three countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Iraq, the Republic of Guatemala, and three international organisations, the East African Community, G5 Sahel and the Economic Community of Central African States signed the International Energy Charter declaration and therefore have become observers to the Energy Charter.
This ceremony extends the overall number of countries and organisations that signed the International Energy Charter to 80. The International Energy Charter declaration was adopted and signed at the high-level Ministerial Conference in The Hague, the Netherlands on 20 May 2015.
