Somoniyon City signs the Covenant of Mayors within the DACO Project framework

On 5 July 2013 the municipality of Somoniyon city, Tajikistan, signed to the Covenant of Mayors within the framework of the DACO project. In order to support the municipality in its commitment to sustainable development, the Energy Charter Secretariat is organising a donors' roundtable in Somoniyon city on 19 July 2013.

The objective of the roundtable is to learn about innovative solutions and best practices on how public authorities can efficiently work towards the ambitious Covenant of Mayors objectives. Meeting participants will learn about success stories from city authorities about planning, implementation and monitoring of local sustainable energy actions. The meeting will aim to stimulate interest from international financial institutions and donors to finance energy projects at local level.

The Covenant of Mayors is a mainstream European movement involving local and regional authorities, who voluntarily commit to increasing energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources on their territories.

The municipality of Somoniyon city of Tajikistan is one among several partners in the international project Yes (DA) to the COvenant (DACO), which is implemented by the Energy Charter Secretariat in international partnership. The DACO project is funded by the European Union.
