The session focused on the greater inclusion of renewables in the energy mix for increasing the energy security of the European Union and associated countries. In his remarks the Secretary General referred to the relevance of the Energy Charter Protocol on Energy Efficiency and Related Environmental Aspects for achieving the goals under discussion. He also outlined the activities of the Energy Charter Secretariat designed to provide support to Charter member countries on the necessary background information and tools for defining an integrated and sustainable energy security policy.
