He underlined that the energy challenges faced by the international community were becoming increasingly interlinked and complex. International cooperation in the form of joint commitment through "global energy governance" is essential to address mutual problems and to find the most effective and durable solutions.
On 5 June, Dr. Rusnák had a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Mr. Natig Abbasov. The parties concluded that activities on the efficient use of energy resources and capacity building were among priority areas of cooperation between the Energy Charter and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On the same day, the Secretary General Dr. Rusnák met with the Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev to discuss Azerbaijan’s support for the Energy Charter's expansion and outreach activities and the possibility of designating the Azerbaijani embassy in Indonesia as an Energy Charter Liaison Embassy (ECLE). The growing ECLE network provides political support for achieving the organisation's expansion and outreach policy goals. The parties also discussed the ongoing modernisation of the Energy Charter.
