With Dr. Mohamad Hamed, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jordan, Dr. Rusnák discussed the possibility of the country's accession to the Energy Charter Treaty and the role Jordan could play in the negotiations on an updated version of the 1991 Energy Charter, scheduled for 2014. Jordan's accession reports were approved by the Energy Charter Conference, the organisation's top governing body, at the end of 2009.
With Dr. Abdelkader Amara, Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment of Morocco, and Mr. Abdulrahim El Hafidi, Secretary General at the same ministry, Dr. Rusnák talked about the preparations for Morocco's accession to the Energy Charter Treaty, including the arrangements for a secondee from the ministry to the Secretariat. The Secretary General invited Morocco to take part in the updated Energy Charter negotiations. The parties also discussed the possibility of holding a second Rabat Energy Charter Forum next year, following the success of the initial Forum in 2012.
In the meeting with Dr. Ali Muhairig, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Libya, Dr. Rusnák confirmed the readiness of the Energy Charter Secretariat to assist the Libyan authorities with the preparations for joining the Charter Process. Minister Muhairig reiterated his country's interest in becoming a Charter observer and invited a delegation from the Secretariat to visit Tripoli once the security situation in Libya improves.
