Secretary General Dr. Rusnák and CNPC delegation discuss China's involvement in the Energy Charter Process

On 30 October 2013 the Secretary General Dr. Rusnák welcomed at the Energy Charter Secretariat a delegation of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) led by the Head of International Cooperation Mr. Zhang Xin.

The meeting followed the Chinese delegation's participation in the Energy Charter's Industry Advisory Panel meeting and the Energy Charter Secretariat Knowledge Centre's Training Programme the day before. During the meeting, Dr. Rusnák outlined the main areas of the Energy Charter Secretariat's expertise and presented the Charter's approach towards modernisation and expansion.

Mr. Zhang expressed an interest in learning more about the Energy Charter's experience in dealing with multilateral issues involving energy exporting, transit and importing countries. In particular, asset swaps and long-term gas contracts were discussed. Both sides agreed that China's more active engagement with the Energy Charter Process would be mutually beneficial. In that spirit, the meeting ended with a discussion on future possibilities of deeper and broader CNPC involvement in the activities organised by the Charter, such as Energy Charter Forums, sponsored academic research and training courses.
