The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, the Vice-President of India and the Prime-Minister of Pakistan made their opening remarks on this remarkable occasion. The TAPI pipeline could become an excellent example of regional cooperation, interconnecting energy resources of Central Asia with energy deficient countries of South Asia. The almost 1,800 kilometers long TAPI pipeline will supply up to 33 bcm of gas from Galkynysh field through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. In its first step it will provide gas to northern Afghanistan and the intention is to complete all construction by 2019. This megaproject will be accompanied by an electricity line to provide power to Afghanistan and Pakistan and a fiber optic data line to create a transportation and communication corridor reconnecting traditional partners.
