European Commission Director for Energy Policy Ms. Mechthild Woersdoerfer welcomed the Action Plan and restated that a stable investment climate was required to secure energy investments.
Mr. Steivan Defilla, Director at the Energy Charter Secretariat, presented a note on the contribution and the added value of the Energy Charter Treaty promoting the principle of the rule of law in the energy sector without interfering in the national sovereignty over energy resources of the contracting parties. The initiatives and activities of the Energy Charter Secretariat with MENA countries were also illustrated, in particular with Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia.
The Action Plan is expected to contribute to the next preparatory meeting for the UfM Regional Electricity Markets Platform and for the UfM Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Platform, planned to take place in Barcelona in July 2015.
The conference included addresses by RES4MED, MEDELEC, RCREEE, IRENA, the Climate Parliament, Florence School of Regulation, ONEE, Terna SPA, EDF, and RWE Dubai.
