Promoting energy efficiency at the international level

The Second International Energy Efficiency Forum was held at the Ismaili Centre in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 12-14 September 2011. The Forum was organised jointly by the Government of Tajikistan, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Over 100 participants from 25 countries attended this event.

In the plenary session, Zafar Samadov, Senior Expert at the Energy Charter Secretariat, delivered a presentation on "The Need for Global Actions on Promoting Energy Efficiency" which sent a strong message concerning the role of the Energy Charter in promoting energy efficiency, global challenges in this field and the positive experience of knowledge-sharing between countries within the Energy Charter forum.

The outcomes of the Forum were presented at the 7th Ministerial Conference "Environment for Europe" in Astana, Kazakhstan, at the side event "Investments in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy: Ways to Make Them Business-as-Usual" on 22 September 2011. Conference and side-event participants welcomed the outcomes of the Forum.
