Joint Energy Charter / NEMA workshop on energy efficiency goods held in Geneva

A joint Energy Charter / National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) workshop on energy efficiency goods was held in Geneva at the World Trade Organization (WTO) premises on 29 January 2015. The workshop provided technical assistance to the negotiating parties of the plurilateral WTO Environmental Goods Agreement, which was launched in Davos on 24 January 2014. The Agreement was initiated by the United States and thirteen other WTO Members, including the European Union, China, Japan, Korea, Australia, Singapore and Switzerland. The intention is to have this Agreement concluded by the end of 2015.

The workshop  focused on goods and technologies used for improving energy efficiency. Industry experts invited by the Energy Charter and NEMA explained why certain products are important for improving energy efficiency and therefore should be covered by the Environmental Goods Agreement. The speakers included representatives of some of the world’s largest industries and industry associations: Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, JAMA (Japan); Honeywell (The Netherlands); Danfoss (Denmark); Svenska Kyl & Värmepumpföreningen (Sweeden); ABB (Finland) and GE (US).

The Energy Charter, among other organisations, promotes energy efficiency and trade in energy efficient equipment.
