Energy Charter Groups working to promote the Energy Charter globally and to address emergency situations

On 25-27 March 2014, three subsidiary groups of the Energy Charter Conference met to promote the organisation's ambitious agenda in a number of fields. The Strategy Group first gathered the signatories of the European Energy Charter to prepare negotiations with countries worldwide on an updated Energy Charter, as mandated by the Energy Charter Conference in Warsaw in November 2012.

The Strategy Group also met in its usual format to launch a consultation among the Energy Charter members and observers to review the functions of the Energy Charter in 2014.

Following the first experience with the Energy Security Contact Group established by the Secretary General Dr. Rusnák to deal with the current situation in Ukraine, the Trade and Transit Group had a first exchange on a proposal to institutionalise under the Energy Charter an early warning mechanism for energy emergency situations.

The PEEREA Group discussed and agreed on the conclusions and recommendations from the In-depth Review of Energy Efficiency Policies and Programmes of Turkey. The group also discussed priority support actions to be  implemented in several member countries in order to facilitate the implementation of recent review recommendations.
