Energy Charter and IRENA deliver joint high-level roundtable during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week

On 19 January 2016 on the margins of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) held in Abu Dhabi, the Energy Charter Secretariat and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) organised a joint high-level Roundtable on the subject “Enabling Environments for Clean Energy Investments”. 

Having hosted more than 60 participants, the Roundtable brought together senior government representatives, such as H.E. Mr. Cristian Busu, the Secetary of State from the Ministry of Energy of Romania, H.E. Abdullah Al Akwa’a, the Minister of Electricity and Energy of Yemen, and Mr. Mauricio Bejarano Martí, the Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy of Paraguay; national experts from several countries, experts from international organisations, financial institutions as well as private investors to discuss their experience and views on strategies, achievements and challenges to promote, remove barriers to, and mitigate risks of clean energy investments in developing countries. 

The three panels of the Roundtable were moderated by the Secretariat's Director Mr. Steivan Defilla and Mr. Dennis Vlok from IRENA. The former also delivered a speech on the role of the Energy Charter for investment “Introducing the Energy Charter – Global Rules for Energy Investment Security”.
