Dispute settlement mechanisms and the Energy Charter Treaty

Following on from the successful Conference on Investment Arbitration and the Energy Charter Treaty, which took place in Stockholm in June 2005, the Energy Charter Secretariat organised a workshop on 20 October 2005 in Brussels for representatives of member and observer states on the dispute settlement mechanisms of the Energy Charter Treaty.

The aim of the workshop was to provide an overview of the various options for the dispute settlement available under the Treaty, with a particular focus on the Treaty's investment provisions. Presentations from the workshop were made by the General Counsel and Legal Counsel of the Secretariat, and also by external specialists in investment arbitration from Allen & Overy LLP.
