Written notification of withdrawal from the Energy Charter Treaty

On 7 August 2025, the Republic of Lithuania deposited with the Energy Charter Secretariat, in its capacity as the Depositary of the Energy Charter Treaty on an interim basis, a written notification of its decision to withdraw from the Energy Charter Treaty.

Pursuant to Article 47(2) of the Energy Charter Treaty, any such withdrawal shall take effect upon the expiry of one year after the date of receipt of the notification by the Depositary.

In accordance with Article 47(4) of the Energy Charter Treaty, all Protocols to which a Contracting Party is party shall cease to be in force for that Contracting Party on the effective date of its withdrawal from the Energy Charter Treaty.

Accordingly, the withdrawal of the Republic of Lithuania from the Energy Charter Treaty and the Energy Charter Protocol on Energy Efficiency and Related Environmental Aspects shall take effect on 8 August 2026.
