Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomes the International Energy Charter

On 30 June 2017, Energy Charter Secretary General Dr Urban Rusnák met with Ukrainian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms Olena Zerkal, to update her about ongoing activities within the International Energy Charter. The Secretary General informed Ms Zerkal about the Energy Charter Diplomatic Dialogues and their relevance for Ukraine, as well as on modernization efforts of the Energy Charter Treaty. Participation of Ukraine in the Energy Investment Risk Assessment for 2017 was also discussed. 

Deputy Minister Zerkal informed about the current process of unbundling of NC Naftogaz and about some Crimea-related arbitration cases. She expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the Secretariat during the 2014 gas crisis. Dr Rusnák stated that the Secretariat remains ready to support constructive dialogue between parties involved within the Energy Charter Model Early Warning Mechanism in case of need. Finally, it was mentioned that the Energy Charter Secretariat remains available for expert advise and best practices to aid in any ongoing reforms of Ukraine’s energy sector.
