Turkey Ratifies the Trade Amendment


On May 29, 2017, the Government of the Republic of Turkey ratified the Trade Amendment to the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT). Yesterday the Energy Charter Secretariat received official communication from the Depository, Portugal, informing that on the 3rd November 2017, the Republic of Turkey deposited its instrument of ratification. As stipulated in Article 42 paragraph 4 of the ECT, amendments to it shall enter into force on the ninetieth day after the deposit of its instrument of ratification. Therefore, the Trade Amendment has entered into force for Turkey on the 1st February 2018.

To date, all Contracting Parties of the Energy Charter Treaty except Japan have ratified or apply provisionally the Trade Amendment.
