The Secretary-General meets with high-level Mongolian delegation

On 14 June 2022, the Secretary-General of the Energy Charter Secretariat, Mr Guy Lentz, met with a high-level delegation from Mongolia, headed by H.E. Mr. Тumurbaatar Ayursaikhan, Vice-Chairman of State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, H.E. Mr. Baagaa Battumur, Member of Parliament, Chairman of Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy, and accompanied by H.E. Mr Luvsanvandan Bold, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia, and Mr Manlajav Jambalsuren, the Counsellor of the Embassy of Mongolia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the most pressing issues of international cooperation in the energy sector, as well as the modernisation of the Energy Charter Treaty.

They also discussed the Chairmanship of Mongolia at the upcoming Energy Charter Conferences in June and in November 2022, and exchanged views on the further development and deepening of relations between Mongolia and the Energy Charter.

The Vice-Chairman expressed Mongolia’s interest in furthering cooperation in the field of renewable energy. The parties emphasised the importance of a systematic and gradual transition to a low-carbon economy and the development of renewable energy sources.  The Secretary-General took note of  Mongolia’s significant potential for the development of different types of renewable energy sources.

The partners exchanged warm wishes and expressed their commitment to explore further areas of cooperation.
