Secretary General visits Vienna

The Energy Charter Secretary General Urban Rusnák addressed the Vienna Energy Club meeting, hosted by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on 27 February 2012. With the event's main focus on improving efficiency, accountability and transparency in the field of energy, Dr. Rusnák's speech centred on the contribution of the Energy Charter to energy governance.

The Vienna Energy Club is an informal grouping of nine Vienna-based organisations active in the field of energy, which was set up in 2009 at the initiative of the Energy Community.

While in Vienna, Dr. Rusnák also met with the Austrian Federal Minister of Economy, Family and Youth, Mr. Reinhold Mitterlehner. They reviewed the possibility of a joint information workshop aimed at the Austrian energy industry, co-organised by the Energy Charter Secretariat, the Federal Ministry and the Austrian Economic Chambers (WKO).

With Austria's notable experience in the hydropower sector - in 2010, over a half of the country's electricity was produced from hydro - cooperation between the Energy Charter and Austria in this field was also identified as a very important area. In this context, Dr. Rusnák and Minister Mitterlehner discussed Austria's potential involvement in the Energy Charter Task Force on Regional Energy Cooperation in Central and Southern Asia.
