Secretary General meets with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon

The Secretary General was in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 20-22 August 2013 where he addressed the High Level International Conference on Water Cooperation.

Dr. Rusnák had bilateral meetings with each of H.E. President of Tajikistan, Mr. Emomali Rahmon, the Minister for Energy and Industry of Tajikistan, Mr. Sherali Gul, and  the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hamrokhon Zarifi.

The meeting with President Rahmon was a follow up to "New Energy Investment Opportunities of Tajikistan – The Way Forward" organised by the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels and attended by the President on 11 April of this year. In Dushanbe, the Secretary General reiterated to the President the commitment of the Energy Charter to support the Republic of Tajikistan's initiative to attract investment to the energy sector and to further strengthen cooperation.

The discussions with Minister Sherali Gul focused on the ratification of the Amendment to the Trade related Provisions of the Energy Charter Treaty. The Minister indicated that proposals to ratify the Amendment are being prepared for approval by the relevant national authorities.
