On 25 February 2022, in a letter addressed to the Ambassador Chizhov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union, the Secretary General Guy Lentz expressed grave concern on the current situation in Ukraine, especially that of the Chernobyl nuclear site and critical energy infrastructure in Ukraine.  He extended the invitation to Russia to participate in the Energy Security Contact Group to be convened by the Secretary General, as a neutral forum to seek resolution of the current emergency.
