Secretary General Dr. Rusnák discusses Energy Charter modernisation with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vassiliy Nebenzya

During his mission to Moscow, the Secretary General Dr. Rusnák met with Russia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Vassiliy Nebenzya on 14 January 2014. 

Dr. Rusnák and Mr. Nebenzya discussed the ongoing modernisation of the Energy Charter and the necessary steps for Russia's deeper involvement in the Energy Charter Process. According to Mr. Nebenzya, the Energy Charter Treaty has the potential to be the platform for global energy governance discussions. He underlined that the key to the Treaty's success will be in balancing the interests of all participating countries.

The Secretary General Dr. Rusnák also informed Mr. Nebenzya of the Charter's activities planned for 2014, including the in-depth legal analysis of the application of Energy Charter Treaty dispute resolution mechanisms, increasing transparency and accountability. In addition, the Secretary General also outlined the priorities of the Energy Charter's expansion and outreach policy.
