Secretary General attended the Thirteenth Session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly in Abu Dhabi

Mr. Guy Lentz, the Secretary-General, participated in the 13th Session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly which took place in Abu Dhabi from 13 to 15 January 2023.

The IRENA Assembly brings together Heads of State/Government, Ministers and energy decision-makers among its Membership and States-in-Accession, as well as multilateral organisations, global stakeholders and private actors to take stock of operational plans and policies and highlight the concerted action undertaken to implement the energy transition across countries, regions, and the world.

The Assembly session also convened several Ministerial and High-level sessions to facilitate interaction between decision-makers on pressing issues related to the energy transition in the coming decade and beyond and inform the future work of the Agency.

A number of Stakeholder Engagement events were also organised at the margins of the 13th Session of the IRENA Assembly to bring specific perspectives on the energy transition from parliamentarians, youth and the private sector.

It is worth mentioning that IRENA has been an Observer at the Energy Charter Conference since 2014.

The Secretary-General also participated in one of the flagship gatherings of the international energy sector – Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week – held from 14 to 19 January 2023 and the World Future Energy Summit on 16 January.
