Press statement concerning erroneous references to the Energy Charter in some media reports on ongoing gas supply negotiations between the Russian Federation and Moldova

14 September 2012 - In view of incorrect reports published in some media, the Energy Charter Secretariat would like to clarify that the statements made by the parties in the framework of ongoing gas supply negotiations between Russia and Moldova concern Moldova's status within the Energy Community. This information was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Energy.

The Energy Community is a European Union (EU) platform designed to extend EU's internal energy market rules to interested non-EU countries in Europe. It involves the European Union and 9 members in South-Eastern and Eastern Europe.

The Energy Charter is an independent international intergovernmental organisation bringing together 51 states in Europe and Asia. The Energy Charter Treaty focuses on cross-border cooperation in the energy sector: promotion of investments, stable energy flows and increased energy efficiency.
