Energy Charter Secretariat participates in the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Independence Day of Bangladesh

On 16 December 2021, the Energy Charter Secretariat participated in the Victory Day celebration (virtually) hosted by the Embassy of Bangladesh and Mission to the European Union in Brussels.

The event commemorated Bangladesh's victory in the Historic War of Liberation on 16 December 1971 and the Birth Centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The theme of this Golden Jubilee celebration was "50th Anniversary of the Victory Day of Bangladesh: Realising Dreams & Embracing Responsibilities".

Ms Atsuko Hirose, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Energy Charter Secretariat, delivered a goodwill message on this occasion. Congratulating the Government of Bangladesh on this monumental day, she highlighted the shared values of Bangladesh and the Energy Charter constituency on ensuring the openness of energy markets, investment protection and non-discrimination to stimulate foreign direct investment and cross-border trade. She expressed appreciation for the Government's commitment to reinforcing these principles by engaging in the Energy Charter Conference activities and expressed hope that the Secretariat's cooperation with Bangladesh will continue to grow in the coming years.
