Energy Charter contributes to the ECO High-Level Experts Group Meeting

On 22-23 June 2021, the Energy Charter Secretariat took part in the 4th ECO High-Level Experts Group Meeting. The meeting was virtually hosted by the Republic of Azerbaijan and attended by the delegates from Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

As part of the discussion on the Roadmap on the realisation of the ECO Regional Electricity Market (ECO REM), the Secretariat’s Knowledge Centre shared the Energy Charter expertise and experience in promoting regional energy cooperation and integrating power markets. The presentation highlighted the fragmented developments of energy cooperation in the ECO region, summarised best practices and lessons learnt, and stressed the need for a common and comprehensive approach to gain multiple benefits of the integration process.

In 2020, The Secretariat organised a technical workshop on “Perspectives and Challenges of Regional Electricity Markets: Harnessing Trade and Investment Opportunities” in cooperation with the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Secretariat. The event aimed to discuss international experiences on the integration of power markets as well as the challenges and perspectives of developing ECO REM.
