On 25 March 2023, Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Atsuko Hirose, attended an event hosted by H.E. Mr. Mahbub Hassan Saleh, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the Kingdom of Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the European Union, to observe the “Genocide Day” of Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Genocide of 1971, the biggest massacre after the Second World War, is not yet recognized by the international community.  The event marked the continuing efforts of Bangladesh to familiarise the international community with the history of birth of Bangladesh and the genocide suffered in 1971.
