On 7 June 2024, Acting Secretary-General, Ms. Atsuko Hirose, paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Orkhan Zeynalov, at the Ministry of Energy in Baku.

The Deputy Minister and the Acting Secretary-General discussed the latest developments regarding the Energy Charter Treaty, in particular on the modernisation of the Treaty, and reconfirmed continued cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Secretariat.

The parties further discussed COP29 being hosted by the Republic of Azerbaijan this year, and possible collaboration with the Secretariat in that regard.
