On 30 May 2025, Acting Secretary-General, Ms. Atsuko Hirose met the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, HE Mr. Hisayuki Fujii, on the margins of the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers' Preservation 2025, hosted by the government of Tajikistan and co-organised with UNESCO and the World Metrological Organization, taking place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The parties discussed the continued cooperation between Japan and the Energy Charter Secretariat going forward.
