Acting Secretary-General attends an event co-hosted by Ambassadors of Tajikistan and Greece focused on water resources challenges

On 13 June 2025, at the invitation of Ambassador the Republic of Tajikistan to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Permanent Representation to the European Union, H.E Mr. Muzaffar Mahmurod Huseinzoda, Acting Secretary-General, Ms. Atsuko Hirose, attended an event co-hosted by Ambassador Huseinzoda and Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Ms. Sofia Grammata, entitled ‘Challenges on water resources and environmental narratives for a sustainable and climate resilient future,’ which took place at the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Brussels.

The event was opened by remarks from the Chairman of the Environmental Protection Committee of the government of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Bahodur Sheralizoda, who described the outcome of the recent High-Level International Conference on Glaciers' Preservation 2025 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 29-30 May 2025, which was hosted by the government and co-organised with UNESCO and the World Meteorological Organization.  The speakers to the event also included representatives of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and UNESCO.

Ms. Hirose congratulated the Chairman Sheralizoda for the successful conclusion of the Glaciers’ Preservation Conference and discussed the Energy Charter Conference to take place later in the year under the Chairmanship of Tajikistan.
