In 2016, the Chairman of the Energy Charter Conference was Mr. Fumio Kishida, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. On 1 January 2017, Turkmenistan took over the chairmanship of the Energy Charter Conference, and will be followed, in 2018 by Romania.
There were also three Vice-Chairmen of the Energy Charter Conference:
- Mr Kazuo Kodama, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the European Union
- Ms Mariam Valishvili, Deputy Minister of Energy of Georgia
- Mr Dovranmammed Redjepov, Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan
