Tajikistan and the International Energy Charter discuss cooperation in Central Asia

On 16 May 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr Sirodjidin Aslov welcomed the Energy Charter Secretary General Dr Urban Rusnák at the Embassy of Tajikistan in Brussels. The Secretary General updated the Minister of ongoing activities within the International Energy Charter and focused on the bilateral issues related to the finalisation of the Investment Climate and Market Structure review of Tajikistan. Dr Rusnák also updated on his recent initiative on Energy Diplomatic Dialogues which would be particularly relevant for the region of Central Asia.

Minister Aslov expressed his appreciation for the support of the Secretariat in the development of the energy sector in Tajikistan as well as capacity building activities, including the Energy Diplomacy initiative. The Minister briefed the Secretary General on the importance of the energy sector for the sustainable development of the country and stressed the importance of regional cooperation in Central Asia, particularly in terms of water and energy management. He welcomed the role of the Secretariat in enhancing cooperation between the European Union and Central Asian countries.
