Secretariat team attends Second Stakeholder Forum of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership in Milan

At the invitation of the Italian authorities, a secretariat team composed of Mr. Selim Küneralp, Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Patrice Dreiski, Senior Expert-Expansion and Outreach and Mr. Matteo Barra, Investment Expert, attended the Second Stakeholder Forum of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership that was held in Milan on 16-17 May 2016.

The Deputy Secretary General took part in the First Panel of the Forum on “Innovating and investing in the energy sector in Africa” and spoke about the benefits to African countries of integrating the Energy Charter Process. He recalled that twelve African countries were at different stages of involvement and that the Charter was seen by them as a useful instrument to attract investment to their energy sectors.

The team also had bilateral meetings with Dr. Elham Ibrahim, African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, Dr. Mohamed Mousa Omran, First Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt, as well as representatives from Cameroun, Kenya, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
