International Energy Media Forum held in Ashgabat

Following the successful conclusion of the Ashgabat International Energy Charter Forum on 30-31 May 2017, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan organised an Energy Media Forum dedicated to the 28th Session of the Energy Charter Conference to be held in November in Ashgabat. The aim of the event was to brief representatives of the diplomatic corps and international mass media on the chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the Energy Charter Conference in 2017. 

High-level representatives of Turkmenistan discussed the priorities of the chairmanship and addressed the timeframe and objectives of activities scheduled throughout the year. Representatives of the Contracting parties of the Energy Charter Treaty such as Afghanistan, stressed the benefits of engaging with the International Energy Charter while Albania, Georgia and Kazakhstan shared their experiences with the past and upcoming chairmanship in the Conference. 

In the margin of the Forum, Energy Charter Secretary General Dr Urban Rusnák held a number of bilateral meetings with the government officials of Turkmenistan. The exchange of views centred upon the outcomes of the events in Ashgabat and future activities with the Chairman of the Energy Charter Conference Mr Maksat Babayev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, and Deputy Chairman Mr Charymyrad Purchekov, Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan. The Secretary General also briefed Mr Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, on the events held in Ashgabat and expressed his appreciation to the Chairmanship for excellent organisation of the events and extended hospitality.
