International Energy Charter participates in the 7th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development

The Energy Charter Secretary General and experts of the Secretariat attended the 7th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development which was held in Baku, Azerbaijan on 18-21 October 2016.

Dr. Urban Rusnák contributed to the High-Level Policy Dialogue: Call for Action to Energy Ministers along with the Ministers and Vice-Ministers from Azerbaijan, PakistanUkraine and high-level speakers from international organisations. In his speech he focused on the investment climate and stressed the need to mobilise an extremely large amount of private investment in order to achieve the objectives of Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Sarah Keay-Bright, the Secreariat’s Energy Efficiency Expert, contributed to discussions of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) groups of experts on energy efficiency and renewable energy. The discussions were focused on the practical aspects of accelerating scale up of investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency, particularly in the buildings and industrial sectors, with exchange of best practice and lessons learned.

Transit Expert Kanat Botbaev participated in the Workshop on Challenges and Prospects for Regional Electricity Cooperation and Trade in Central Asia and the Caucasus organised by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and CIS Power Council. He contributed to the discussion sharing the Energy Charter experience of promoting regional energy cooperation in Central and South Asia as well as in the South Caucasus.
