Deputy Secretary General attends CASA-1000 launch ceremony in Tajikistan

At the invitation of the authorities of Tajikistan, the Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Selim Küneralp represented the Energy Charter Secretariat at the launching ceremony of the CASA-1000 Project which was held in Tursunzade on 12 May 2016.

The Heads of State or Government of Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan joined the President of Tajikistan at the launching ceremony. Once completed, the project will transport electricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan are contracting parties to the Energy Charter Treaty while Pakistan has observer status.

Earlier, the Deputy Secretary General called upon Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda, the First Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan with whom he discussed issues of common interest.

During his visit to Dushanbe, Mr. Küneralp also spoke at a round table to mark the launching ceremony of CASA-1000.
