The Energy Charter Secretariat organised the Expert Meeting on removing pre-investment barriers in energy to facilitate the discussion at the Energy Charter Investment Group in terms of future decision-making process on 14 June 2016 in Brussels. This was the first of a series of expert meetings aiming to prepare the groundwork for a policy debate on negotiating conditions and eliminating barriers to pre-investment. The outcomes of the meetings will be addressed to the Energy Charter Conference.

The Energy Charter Secretary General Dr. Rusnák addressed the Energy Roundtable Briefing entitled  'The Role of Europe Southeastern Periphery in the EU Energy Security', which took place on Thursday 26 May 2016 in Brussels. The event was organised by New Europe and Symeon G. Tsomokos in cooperation with the Greek Energy Forum.

On 17-20 May 2016, the Energy Charter Secretariat Knowledge Centre organised the eighth edition in its series of Executive Training Programmes for Young Energy Professionals in Kraków, Poland.

The Energy Charter Trade and Transit Group held its first meeting in 2016 on 13 May 2016 from 10.00 at the premises of the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels.

The Energy Charter Investment Group held its first meeting in 2016 on 12 May 2016 from 10.00 at the premises of the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels.

The fifth meeting of the Energy Charter Working Group on Procedural Issues was held on 9 March 2016 from 10.00 at the premises of the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels.

The Energy Charter Strategy Group held its first meeting in 2016 on 8 March 2016 from 10.00 at the premises of the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels.

The Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) - the German Institute for International and Security Affairs - hosted a Workshop on "The potential of the Energy Charter in the context of energy diplomacy" in their offices in Berlin (Ludwigkirchplatz 3-4, 10719 Berlin) on Wednesday 2 March 2016 at which the Secretary General, Dr Rusnák, was the main speaker.

This event brought together legal experts, practitioners and policy-makers to discuss the legal and practical arrangements, which govern the involvement of the European Union (EU) and its Member States in investment arbitration under the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT).

On 8 February 2016, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce hosted the Energy Charter Forum in Stockholm. The event was jointly organised by the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes, the Energy Charter Secretariat and the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

The Energy Charter Secretariat and IRENA jointly organised a high level roundtable on the second day of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) (18-21 January 2016) during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week  (16-23 January 2016).

The Energy Charter Secretariat organised a Roundtable addressed to officers from the European Union (EU) Member States interested in the implementation of investor state disputes settlement under the Energy Charter Treaty on 15 December 2015 in Brussels.

The roundtable was originally planned to be held on 25 September 2015 in Bratislava and was now rescheduled to have taken place on 15 December 2015 in Brussels.

The Energy Charter Conference held its 26th Meeting on 3-4 December 2015 in Tbilisi under the Chairmanship of Georgia and the kind invitation of the Chairman of the Energy Charter Conference, Mr. Kakha Kaladze, the Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Energy of Georgia.

The Third International Meeting of the Experts jointly organised by the National Energy Administration of China, the Energy Charter Secretariat and the Government of Turkmenistan took place on 27 November 2015 in Beijing. The Meeting brought together over 60 participants representing governments, the energy industry and academic institutions.

A Workshop on Investment Climate of the Kyrgyz Republic was jointly organised by the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Energy Charter Secretariat on 19 November 2015 in Brussels. The aim of the workshop was to illustrate the path of the economic reforms undertaken by the Kyrgyz Government in order to establish a stable and predictable investment climate.
